Plastic surgery SEO: what compounds and what wastes time

SEO9 min read

Paid search stops the moment you stop paying. Organic search is the asset that keeps producing consults between campaigns — and in aesthetics it's still winnable, because most practice websites are structurally weak.

One page per procedure, properly built

The foundation is a dedicated page for every procedure you perform, each targeting how patients actually search. Not a single "Body" page listing eight procedures — separate pages for tummy tuck, liposuction, mommy makeover, body lift.

Each page needs: what the procedure is, who's a candidate, what the technique involves, recovery timeline, realistic cost discussion, the surgeon's specific approach, before-and-after imagery where you have consent, and a clear booking path. Depth wins here. Thin procedure pages don't rank in a category this competitive.

Location pages, if you have real locations

A page per office, with genuinely distinct content — the actual address, staff, directions, parking, which procedures are performed there. Doorway pages targeting cities you don't operate in are a well-known way to get penalized rather than ranked.

Google Business Profile does heavy lifting

For local searches, the map pack often outperforms organic listings. Complete every field, choose primary and secondary categories carefully, post regularly, add real photos of the practice, and answer questions. Review velocity — a steady stream rather than a burst — matters more than raw count.

Reviews as a ranking and conversion input

Build review requests into the patient journey at the moment satisfaction peaks, which is usually a few weeks post-op rather than immediately. Respond to everything, including negative reviews, carefully and without disclosing any patient information. A measured response to a bad review persuades more prospective patients than the review dissuades.

Content that earns rankings

The questions patients type before they're ready to book: recovery timelines, comparisons between techniques, what results are realistic, how to choose a surgeon, financing. Write these genuinely and specifically. Generic content assembled from other people's articles doesn't rank and doesn't build trust with a patient making a surgical decision.

Technical basics that matter

Fast mobile load times, since most aesthetic browsing happens on a phone. Clean URL structure. Schema markup for medical organization, physician and FAQ. Compressed images. Working internal links from your content into your procedure pages.

Expectations on timeline

SEO in aesthetics is a multi-quarter project. Procedure pages built well begin moving in a few months; competitive head terms take longer. Run paid search alongside it — paid for volume now, organic for margin later.
